The Smart Reading Child Project
Welcome to the resource platform of The Smart Reading Child Project. I launched this platform as a response to persistent encouragement from various people I have worked with: school children, parents and colleagues across both work and volunteering contexts. I have come to recognize the need for and my passion towards children’s holistic development – a developmental paradigm that encompasses the intellectual, emotional and moral aspects of a child’s life. However, children’s development if left to the school system alone, results in developmental deprivation in almost all aspects. One major way of laying a solid foundation in a child is for parents and teachers to help them habituate reading enthusiasm from an early age.
“..as parents, we have to find the time and the energy to step in and help our children love reading. We can read to them, talk to them about what they're reading, and make time for this by turning off the television set ourselves. Libraries are a critical tool to help parents do this.”
